Plans are in place to stockpile over 3.5 million tonnes of haylage in the Minsk region

More than 3.5 million tonnes of haylage are planned to be stored in the Minsk Region. This was reported to BELTA by the press service of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee.

The central region faces the largest task — to store more than 3.5 million tonnes of haylage in trenches. As of July 7, more than 2 million tonnes had already been stored. These volumes are driven by the size of the livestock population: the Minsk Region currently has nearly 900,000 head of cattle, including 320,000 dairy cows.

“In the first half of the year, the region produced 1.194 million tonnes of milk, which is 102.3% of the level recorded during the same period last year. The average milk yield per cow reached 3,675 kg. Quality indicators are also improving: the marketability rate of milk in the region increased to 92.1%. A high-quality feed base is a key condition for further growth in milk yields and for ensuring livestock survival,” said Vladimir Kapustin, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee.

The flax-growing industry has also reported the start of harvesting work: flax pulling in the central region began ahead of last year’s schedule.
